The first issue revolves around about 30,000 2013 RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups worldwide. Dealers like Fayetteville Dodge, serving the Syracuse area, will be performing a software upgrade on these vehicles at no charge so that we can reactivate the indicator that a turn signal is malfunctioning. The recall affects vehicles featuring optional premium taillights. The affected trucks were produced from September 9, 2012 to March 5, 2013. The recall is expected to begin in July, and no injuries or complaints have been reported by drivers.

The NHTSA explains in its summary of the issue: "In the affected vehicles, the turn signal indicator may not flash at a double rate to give a notification to the driver of a turn signal malfunction. Without a warning that the turn signal is malfunctioning, the driver would continue to use the vehicle, unaware that other drivers on the road are not being notified that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash."1

The second issue revolves around about 6,900 2012 model RAM 4500 and 5500 pickups in the U.S. and Canada, which could have a problem that can lead to front axle damage. This recall follows two reports that trucks had sustained front axle damage, due to the fact that the front prop shaft could bend or fracture, leading to loss of power. Together, these issues make up approximately 37,000 2012 and 2013 model RAM trucks in the Syracuse area and beyond.
